Access Nurses Weekly - Travel to Massachusetts, The Bay State

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Volume 9 Number 6 - April 25th
volume 9 - no 6
Massachusetts is certainly a colorful state - greens from the forests, blues from the coast, reds from the bricks on historic buildings and grey and silver from the skyline of downtown Boston. The combination of colors makes the state unique and beautiful. The majority of the population dwells in the eastern portion of the state, near the coast in cities like Boston and Cambridge (home to the prestigious Harvard University). You can experience all four seasons in Massachusetts, with warm summers, mild springs and falls and cold, snowy winters. Boating activities such as sailing and yachting are popular all along the Massachusetts coast and its offshore islands. Hiking and cross-country skiing are also popular activities in the inland regions. There are also two beautiful, cozy islands off the coast of Massachusetts - Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. Both locations offer a more peaceful, small-town experience - perfect for relaxing, fishing and strolling through the quaint towns. So head on over to Massachusetts; You won’t be disappointed!

Good Facilities to Look For

I will be a new nurse in May, but am curious about traveling nursing. What are things someone pursuing traveling nursing should look for? Such as good facilities to work for, qualities of contract, etc.

Access Nurses Weekly - Life’s a Peach in Georgia…

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Volume 9 Number 5 - April 19th

volume 9 - no 5

Good Old-Fashioned Southern Lifestyle

Everyone seems to be realizing the splendor of Georgia-and moving there. The “Peach State” is one of the fastest-growing states in the nation, increasing by more than a million people in the last five years. Atlanta, the state capital and largest city, claims nearly 500,000 residents. But there’s still a stress-free, small-town feel in Georgia. Enjoy beautiful sceneries and quaint towns all through the state. In typical southern fashion, the weather is primarily hot and humid, except at the highest elevations, and it rains heavily throughout the year. You can catch a glimpse of the state’s deep history by visiting one of the many memorials, museums, battlefields and cemeteries across Georgia. When looking for entertainment, it’s best to go off the beaten path in Georgia. Look for great music and art scenes in areas like Savannah and Athens, respectively. So, what are you waiting for? Get yourself on the next plane to Georgia.

Shirley’s Makeover

A woman named Shirley was from Beverly Hills. One day, she had a heart attack and was taken to Cedars Sinai hospital. While on the operating table, she had a near-death experience. She saw God and asked, “Is this it?” God said, “No, you have another 30 to 40 years to live.” Upon her recovery, she decided to stay in the hospital and have collagen shots, cheek implants, a face lift, liposuction and breast augmentation. She even had someone dye her hair. She figured since she had another 30 to 40 years, she might as well make the most of it. She walked out of Cedars Sinai lobby after the last operation and was killed by an ambulance speeding up to the hospital. She arrived in front of God and said, “I thought you said I had another 30 to 40 years?” God replied, “Shirley! I didn’t recognize you!”

IDIOTS AT WORK…
I was signing the receipt for a credit card purchase when the clerk noticed that I had never signed my name on the back of the credit card. She informed me that she could not complete the transaction unless the card was signed. When I asked why, she explained that it was necessary to compare the signature on the credit card with the signature I just signed on the receipt. So I signed the credit card in front of her. She carefully compared that signature to the one I signed on the receipt.
As luck would have it, they matched.

ADVICE FOR IDIOTS…
An actual tip from page 16 of the HP “Environmental, Health & Safety Handbook for Employees: “Blink your eyelids periodically to lubricate your eyes.”

IDIOTS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD…
I live in a semi-rural area. We recently had a new neighbor call the local township administrative office to request the removal of the Deer Crossing sign on our road. The reason: Many deer were being hit by cars and he no longer wanted them to cross there.

IDIOTS IN FOOD SERVICE…
My daughter went to a local fast food joint and ordered a taco. She asked the individual behind the counter for “minimal lettuce. “He said he was sorry, but they only had iceberg.

Access Nurses Weekly - Escape to Maine: A Nature-Lover’s Dream Come True

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

Volume 9 Number 3 - April 5th

volume 9 - no 3If you love nature, Maine is the perfect haven. Nicknamed the “Pine Tree State,” Maine’s largest population is forestry, because 90 percent of the state is covered in it. The rest of the inhabitants are sprinkled throughout the southern part of the state. In addition to forests, the state has a stunning coastal area. Along the famous rocky coastline of Maine are lighthouses, quiet fishing villages and thousands of offshore islands. Maine is a popular destination for a number of outdoor activities, including sport hunting (particularly deer, moose and bear), sport fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, boating, camping and hiking. If you like quality seafood, try the mouth-watering lobster-it not only satisfies your appetite, but it’s also a large source of the state’s economy. So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and travel to the beautiful state of Maine.
