Access Nurses Weekly - San Francisco: The Essence of Culture and Wonder

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Volume 9 Number 2 - March 29th

volume 9 - no 2

Angela J.
The “natural attraction” of the California sea lions lounging at PIER 39
San Francisco, California.

When visiting San Francisco, the only thing you’ll have to worry about is how to fit in all the city has to offer during your stay. As one of the largest cities in California, San Francisco boasts an abundance of sights and activities to discover and enjoy, no matter your liking. There are plenty of attractions, including Fisherman’s Warf and Golden Gate Bridge, plus superb day trips to the surrounding vineyards, Alcatraz and Hearst’s Castle.

While in the city, travelers have the choice of 14 districts to visit. Some of the most popular areas are Presidio/Marina, Chinatown and Haight-Ashbury/Golden Gate Park. All of the districts offer a different cultural taste and style (whether in its food, entertainment or residents) making San Francisco one of the most distinctive cities in the country.

For the outdoorsman, there’s biking, kayaking, golfing and hot air balloon riding, while the ultimate shopper can get her fill in the fashionable Union Square district. Plus, San Francisco hosts 20 music, art and cultural festivals around the city every year to celebrate its diversity.

Don’t miss out on traveling to San Francisco-a city of excitement, culture and beauty!

My feet hurt

I work 12-hour shifts, and at the end of the shift I want to fall over dead because my feet hurt so bad. I wear the Airwalk foam shoes and they don’t seem to be helping my feet at all. Are Dansko shoes the best there are for nurses? Are Crocs any better than the cheapo Airwalks? Are the Danskos worth the $100??

Need Advice About Degrees

I am 33 years old looking to go back to school for nursing. Part of me wants to just go for an ADN and get it over with, while the other part of me says that going for a BSN will serve me better in the long run. Finances are not an issue. My husband has a good job and we can get by on his pay for the four years it will take me to get a BSN. I realize that there are good nurses with ADN and I am not looking to debate wether a BSN nurse is better/worse than an ADN nurse. My question is…if I can realistically wait four years to be licensed and my finances don’t dictate that I get a degree quickly so I can go to work, is it better for me to invest the extra time and money into getting my BSN now? Is a BSN really the future of nursing?
Thank you.
Christine

Hi,
I’m an Australian RN trained in New Zealand. I am hoping to migrate to the US in mid to late 2008. I have been searching the net endlessly and realized there is a great deal of red tape to work through. I’m wondering if there is someone who can help with some good advice, possibly who has been through this proccess. Thanks.

How useful is a PDA?

Hi Everyone!
I received information on a PDA as a recommendation from my faculty to help me during my clinical rotation. Has anyone used this while they were in school? If so, what does it do for you? Any insight would be really appreciated, money is tight and I dont want to waste it! Thanks!

Animal Crackers

When a mother returned from the grocery store, her small son pulled out the box of animal crackers he had begged for, and then he spread the animal-shaped crackers all over the kitchen counter.

“What are you doing?” his mom asked.

“The box says you can’t eat them if the seal is broken,” the boy explained. “I’m looking for the seal.”

When will I feel comfortable with my new job?

The Biggest Lie

Two boys were arguing when the teacher entered the room. The teacher asked, “Why are you arguing?”

One boy answered, “We found a ten-dollar bill and decided to give it to whoever tells the biggest lie.”

“You should be ashamed of yourselves,” said the teacher.
“When I was your age, I didn’t even know what a lie was.”

The boys gave the ten dollars to the teacher.
