Experience

I am still a student but am looking into the surgical field. I am already hired to work on a surgical floor, but really want to be in the surgical room as a ciruclating nurse. How much experience do I need? I know it’s hospital preference, but what suggestion can you all give me?

The Avid Golfer

My job as a land surveyor took me to a golf course that was expanding from 9 holes to 18 holes.

Using a machete to clear thick brush in an area I was mapping, I came upon a golf club that an irate player must have tossed away. It was in good condition, so I picked it up and continued on.

When I broke out of the brush onto a putting green, two golfers stared at me in awe. I had a machete in one hand and a golf club in the other, and behind me was a clear-cut swath leading out of the woods.

“There,” said one of the golfers, “is a guy who hates to lose his ball!”

This is a photo of the lighthouse on East Cliff Beach next to the boardwalk. Traveling was always a dream of mine. I have never been so welcomed like I have been here. Santa Cruz, CA is the perfect place to be for me. I thank my recruiter for encouraging me to travel to this area. I would recommend Santa Cruz to any traveler wanting a diverse population with a multi-cultural and open minded way of living.

I want to see the USA but where to start?

I passed the NCLEX-RN just before christmas and the time has come to decide just where in the USA I want to work. I currently live in the North East of England and am due to start working for OGP somewhere near the end of the year. I have 6 years experience and currently work on a Trauma Ward for the past 6 years which is med/surg specializing in orthopedics, plastics, max fax and A&E admissions. I have a list of the usual places in the US to visit but no idea where to work. Ideally somewhere very friendly and not freezing cold (been there done that). Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Discipline

A school teacher injured his back and had to wear a plaster cast around the upper part of his body. It fit under his shirt and was not noticeable at all. On the first day of the term, still with the cast under his shirt, he found himself assigned to the toughest students in school.

Walking confidently into the rowdy classroom, he opened the window as wide as possible and then busied himself with desk work. The classroom became a bit unruly and he admonished them. This happened several times.

When he could do work at his desk, the strong breeze from the window made his tie flap annoyingly. He kept rearranging and rearranging the tie as the class raised it’s level of unruliness.

Finally, becoming disgusted with the wayward tie, he stood up and took a big stapler off his desk and stapled the tie to his chest in several places.

Discipline was not a problem from that day forth.

Male Emotions

One night a wife found her husband standing over their baby’s crib. Silently she watched him. As he stood looking down at the sleeping infant, she saw on his face a mixture of emotions: disbelief, doubt, delight, amazement, enchantment, skepticism.

Touched by this unusual display and the deep emotions it aroused, with eyes glistening she slipped her arm around her husband.

“A penny for your thoughts,” she said.

“It’s amazing!” he replied. “I just can’t see how anybody can make a crib like that for only $46.50.”

Hudson Beach, Florida

This photo was taken on my last assignment in Hudson, Florida. This was really one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. Hudson Beach is a captivating place. The people were friendly, the town was picturesque and the beaches were phenomenal! It was a great way to get away from the winter cold.

Jesus is Watching You

A burglar broke into a house one night. He shone his flashlight around, looking for valuables, and when he picked up a CD player to place in his sack, a strange, disembodied voice echoed from the dark, saying, “Jesus is watching you.”

He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight off and froze. When he heard nothing more after a bit, he shook his head, promised himself a vacation after the next big score, then clicked the light back on and began searching for more valuables. Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a bell he heard, “Jesus is watching you.” Totally rattled, he shone his light around frantically, looking for the source of the voice. Finally, in the corner of the room, his flashlight beam came to rest on a parrot.

“Did you say that?” he hissed at the parrot.

“Yes,” the parrot confessed, then squawked, “I’m just trying to warn you.”

The burglar relaxed. “Warn me, huh? Who do you think you are, anyway?”

“Moses,” replied the bird.

“Moses!” the burglar laughed. “What kind of stupid people would name a parrot ‘Moses’?”

The bird promptly answered, “The same kind of people who would name a Rottweiler ‘Jesus’!”
