Access Nurses Weekly - Featured cast member from NurseTV: Meet Amy Morrison

Friday, October 14th, 2005

Volume 4 Number 24 October 14, 2005

volume 4 - no 24Amy lived a simple farm life growing up. These days, it’s hard to find her in one place for long. As a travel nurse who goes globetrotting for work and play, her home is on the road. Call it making up for lost time. “No matter what kind of demographic background you come from,” she said, “traveling is so vital.”

Amy credits her grandmother, also a nurse, for getting her into the profession, and for sparking her interest in another passion: ballroom dancing. Amy danced in high school and even entered amateur competitions. But these days, nursing keeps her on her toes. “There’s a lot of moments - 10 years working primarily labor and delivery, trauma, the operating room; you really see a lot and experience a lot,” she said. “But the biggest thing that keeps me doing it is that you feel like you really make a difference. Nursing has been good to me. Traveling is just the cherry on top.”

Access Nurses Weekly - Featured cast member from NurseTV: Meet Angelena Johnson…

Sunday, October 9th, 2005

Volume 4 Number 23 October 9, 2005

volume 4 - no 23 This mother of two boys didn’t initially choose her nursing career - the military did. Following the footsteps of her father, brothers and uncles, she enlisted in the Air Force.

When boot camp ended, she was named a medical specialist. After being discharged, nursing school seemed the logical next step. Angelena’s plans were immediately put to the test. In 1995, she was supposed to meet with her new case manager at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City just 10 minutes before it was bombed, but both of them were running late and were spared. Angelena then worked in the emergency room of a nearby hospital, treating victims of the explosion, and later did the same as a case manager for Red Cross until 1998.

Angelena has been a travel nurse since 2004, choosing it because it allows her to be close to her mother in California. When not working, she enjoys arts and crafts, scrapbooking and sleeping in whenever possible. But to this motivated nurse, life is all about being able to “meet the needs of others, to help identify the needs I have, to learn more about myself and the areas I’d need to work on.”

ROTFLBob couldn’t believe it - he’d made it to the last round of his favorite game show. “Congratulations, Bob,” said the emcee. “Answer correctly and you go home with five million dollars!

“This is a two-part question on American history,” he continued. “The second half of the question is always easier. Which part would you like first?”

Bob figured he’d play it safe. “I think I’ll try the second part of the question firs.” The emcee nodded approvingly, while the audience was silent with anticipation. “Okay, Bob, here is your question: And in what year did it happen?”
